If you are purchasing or leasing a vehicle in the United States it is mandatory that you register your vehicle with your local Department of Motor Vehicles. However, the requirements for vehicle registration vary according to the state you live in.
For example:
In New York you NEED to show State Identification, such as Driver License, ID Card, Learner’s Permit, or 6 Points of ID, but you are NOT required to show a Social Security Card.
In Virginia you do NOT need to show State Identification, but you ARE required to show your Social Security Card.
