What is Presidents Day?
Presidents’ Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February, which this year falls on February 19th. This is an American holiday and originally established in 1885. Presidents’ Day did not become a federal holiday until the late 1870s. Presidents’ Day is in recognition of President George Washington’s day of birth, and now this holiday is used to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present.
Fun Facts:
- Presidents’ Day never falls on George Washingtons actual birthday, which is February 22nd.
- George Washington was president for two terms. This includes 1789 to 1793 and 1793 to 1797.
- The one dollar bill and quarter dollar coin feature George Washington.

In much of the United States, Presidents day is celebrated by taking advantage of great shopping deals. Many stores will have offers that many individuals will take advantage of. This holiday is also celebrated by spending time with family.
